The cemeteries of the Southwestern United States provide a unique window into the spiritual heritage of the area. In these lonely, and oft neglected microcosms of past human existence, one can tread reverently through a history few others will encounter.

This image was the result of just such an encounter in a Catholic cemetery of Northeastern New Mexico. The statue of Jesus, erected over a long forgotten grave has been keeping its silent watch for nearly a century, yet it testifies to the idea that SomeOne is still aware of the circumstances involved in the life that came to rest in this tiny, remote plot of land.

In this I intentionally chose the perspective which does not reveal the face of Jesus, leaving it to the mind's eye of the viewer to extrapolate the details of the image to their own thoughts.
